Overview

Twilio is a cloud communications platform as a service (CPaaS) company based in San Francisco, California. Twilio allows the software developers to programmatically make and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages, and perform other communication functions using its web service APIs.

Using the One Time Password Via Twilio module, the store owner can integrate the OTP (One Time Password) verification feature on the webstore. OTP authentication happens during new customer registration and while placing an order.

The store owner can decide whether to send the OTP, on the mobile number through text message or via email. The admin can also choose payment methods for which the verification is to be required while placing orders.

Account & Pricing

An additional Twilio account is required to send the OTP through the SMS to the customer. The account creation on Twilio is free of cost, but additional fees apply to buy the credits to send the OTP verification messages to the customer.

Note - The account on Twilio does not create during extension installation.

  • To create an account, please visit the Twilio Sign up page
  • To buy credit, please visit the Twilio Pricing plan page

Features

  • OTP verification of new customers at the time of registration.
  • OTP verification of the customers during checkout.
  • Multiple payment methods can be selected by the admin, for which the customers will verify the OTP.
  • OTP verification code can be sent to the customer via email.
  • OTP verification code can also be sent to the customer through SMS on their mobile.
  • Module supports all payment methods.
  • Unique OTP generation for each verification process.
  • The customer receives OTP on the registered email address or mobile number.
  • OTP string supports numeric digits only.
  • OTP cannot be used for cross customer accounts.
  • Admin can decide where to send the OTP, via email or through SMS on the mobile.

Use Case

In the default web store, the admin can’t control the customer registration and false placed orders. These things may sometimes lead to fraud account creation and wrong order of the product. For managing these things, the admin should have a feature to control or check whether the user is an authenticated one or not.

The One Time Password extension places an authentication check on the customer while the registration and while placing an order on the webstore. The customer would not be able to register or place an order until the authentication process completes.

Workflow

  • After the module installation, the admin will either enable or disable the validation process as per the requirement. If authentication is disabled, the customer can register and place an order without any check.
  • The admin can set the authentication check at the time of new customer registration and during checkout.
  • The admin has to choose the payment method for the verification during the process of checkout from the available payment methods. The admin can select more than one payment method for the OTP verification.
  • The admin can also define the OTP mailing templates which will be mailed to the customer registration and checkout.
  • If the Twilio Auth Mobile Verification is enabled, then the OTP will be sent to the customer through SMS on their mobile. If Twilio Auth Verification is disabled, then the OTP will be sent to the customer via email.
  • The customer registration and the checkout cannot be completed until the customer enters the valid OTP sent over the mail and through SMS on their mobile.

Benefits

  • Offers the store owner an additional layer of security to prevent false order placement.
  • Prevent false customer registration over the online store.
  • It offers a unique OTP code for each validation process.
  • The OTP strings are auto-generated and mailed to the customers over the registered mail address or send through the SMS on their mobile.
