The Canonical Url extension for Magento 2 extends the default canonical with a bunch of extra features to avoid duplicate content in search engines and make your site more crawlable.

It allows configuring the canonical meta tag on any page of your store. You can add canonical meta tags to all categories pages, products pages, CMS pages, homepage, layered navigation pages, and any other pages. Add a custom canonical URL per specific product, category, and CMS Pages. Use longest, shortest possible categories paths or no categories paths on canonical URLs for product pages. Crop, or add a trailing slash to canonical URL without .html or .htm suffix. Use the rel=next/prev tag to category pages. Support cross-domain canonical URL per store view and a single product.

Also, you can exclude or remove canonical meta tags on any pages types, such as home pages, CMS pages, product pages, and categories pages, and more.

Canonical Meta Tag For Categories Pages

The Canonical Url extension for Magento 2 adds a canonical meta tag to all categories pages of your site.  You can enable canonical meta tag for :

  • layered navigation pages or filtered pages. Example: <link rel="canonical" href="https://mydomain.com/my-cat-page/subcat.html?color=78" />.  You can choose to use filtered page URL or current category page URL on canonical meta tag for layered navigation pages.  Adjust the setting per specific product attribute used in the layered navigation page
  • pagination pages.  They are pages ending with : ?p=1, ?p=2, ?p=3, ?p=4, ?p=5 etc.  Example: <link rel="canonical" href="https://mydomain.com/my-cat-page/subcat.html?p=2" />

Also, you can choose to add rel="next"/rel="prev" tags to each category page,  to inform search engines like Google about the 1st and the last category page, previous or next page.


Canonical Meta Tag For Product Pages

The extension adds canonical meta tags to all product pages of your site. You can choose to use the longest categories path for product canonical URL (Eg. "mydomain.com/cat1/sub-cat1/sub-cat2/sub-cat3/product.html"), shortest categories path for product canonical URL (Eg. "mydomain.com/cat1/sub-cat1/sub-cat2/product.html"), or no categories path for product canonical URL (eg. "mydomain.com/product.html")


Canonical Meta Tag For CMS & Other Pages

The Canonical Url extension for Magento 2 adds canonical meta tags to the homepage, all CMS pages, and any other pages.  


Cross-domain Canonical URL

The extension support cross-domain canonical meta tag per store view and single/individual product page.  You can choose the main domain from other domains that have similar content. The canonical meta tag will be added to the main domain. This feature is useful for sites with multiple domains and similar content per domain within a single Magento 2 installation.


Add & Crop Trailing Slash From Canonical URL

With the Canonical Url extension for Magento 2,  you can "Add" or "Crop" trailing slash on the canonical URL for pages without  .html or .htm suffix.


Use Custom Canonical URL For Specific Product, Category & CMS Pages

The Canonical Url extension for Magento 2 offers the ability to use custom canonical per specific product, category, and CMS page. You can override the current canonical URL per particular product, category, and CMS page with a custom one. Define the custom canonical URL under each specific product, category, and CMS page.


Exclude Canonical Meta Tag For Specific Pages Types

The extension allows removing/excluding canonical meta tags for specific pages. You can specify the list of pages to exclude/remove canonical meta tags.  Example:

  • to exclude canonical meta tag on all product pages use catalog_product_view'
  • to exclude canonical meta tag on all CMS Pages (All) page use: 'cms_page_view'
  • to exclude canonical meta tag on CMS home page use: 'cms_index_index'
  • to exclude canonical meta tag on all category pages use: 'catalog_category_view
