Overview

SnapScan is an easy and secure way for South Africans to pay for their favourite goods and services.

You may know the SnapScan app from your favourite weekend market or local coffee shop, but SnapScan also provides payment solutions for larger businesses: from payments and invoicing for Pathcare Laboratories to online checkout for big brands like Superbalist, OneDayOnly and Yuppiechef. SnapScan's rate starts at  2.95%(excl. VAT) per transaction, and can decrease every month based on the previous month's turnover.

This plugin offers multiple payment options at checkout. SnapScan allows South African customers to check out quicker and more securely, using the SnapScan app, which encrypts their card details on their phone, or by using any of SnapScan's external payment methods: instant Electronic Funds Transfer (iEFT) and online card payments. The banking details provided by customers for iEFT payments and the bank card details provided for online card payments are secured by SnapScan's payment providers.

Customers spend less time at checkout, and more time shopping! When a customer pays with SnapScan, they are presented with three payment options: Pay with SnapScan, Pay with card and Pay with iEFT. Customers who choose to Pay with SnapScan are presented with a SnapScan QR code and pay using the app without leaving the website. If on desktop, the customer can scan the code directly on the website using their SnapScan app to make a SnapScan payment. If on mobile, customers can tap on the pay with SnapScan option to launch their SnapScan app or tap on the link to download the SnapScan app and pay directly from their phone. When a customer pays with card, they are presented with the payment provider's popup and can pay by entering their card details without leaving the website. When a customer pays with iEFT, they are redirected to the payment provider's screens and can pay by logging into their internet banking and selecting the account they want to pay from.

Once the payment process is complete, the order will be created in the Magento system and marked as 'processing'. As a merchant, your order list displays confirmation of the SnapScan payment, and you can begin the delivery process.

Account & pricing information

To use this plugin, you need a SnapScan merchant account. Sign-up needs to be done via the SnapScan website and cannot be completed by installing this plugin.

Head over to www.snapscan.co.za to complete the online signup process. This generally takes 1-2 business days, and the sooner SnapScan gets the required info, the quicker it is to get set up. Once you have signed up, you can select the Magento online integration from your Business details page. The SnapScan team will contact you to provide you with the Magento 2 integration details once your account is verified.

It is free to sign up for SnapScan, and no monthly fees are charged. SnapScan's rate starts at  2.95% (excl. VAT) per transaction, and can decrease every month based on the previous month's turnover. For more information on our dynamic rates, head here.

What happens after I have a SnapScan merchant account?

  1. Download this plugin
  2. Email help@snapscan.co.za and let them know you’d like to integrate with the Magento 2 SnapScan plugin
  3. SnapScan will send you all the relevant details and instructions for setting up the payment option on your website.

Security

The method for communicating between Magento and SnapScan is via an API. SnapScan has the highest level of PCI compliance (Level 1) and this is upheld with this plugin’s functionality. No customer information or payment information is stored on the Magento system. The information stored is only the account and address information required by default for all clients. No payment information is stored or entered on the Magento system and everything is done separately, via the SnapScan app.

Payments are made via the SnapScan app, and the plugin simply captures any update sent to it from the SnapScan server. The plugin thus has a one way communication with the SnapScan API, only reading transactional status information.
