Pennies is an award-winning fintech charity encouraging and facilitating charitable giving by enabling your customers to make small charitable donations to good causes whether shopping in-store or online.

Our digital charity box extension integrates simply into the Magento checkout process. You nominate the charity or charities you would like to support that resonates with your business and customers. At checkout, customers are then presented with a button to add an optional micro-donation (typically below £1) to their order. The donations are reported to Pennies automatically, aggregated and settled in a simple monthly invoicing process.

Account & Pricing

Pennies' digital charity box extension is free to download, and an additional Pennies account is required, which is not created during extension installation. If you wish to integrate the digital charity box extension and your business meets the transaction criteria below, please contact magento@pennies.org.uk to set up your account and discuss next steps with the Pennies team.

We are looking to engage with merchants that process at least 200,000 transactions annually via their Magento e-commerce platform.

More about Pennies

Pennies is an award-winning fintech charity with an important mission: to protect and grow micro-donations, and ensure people have digital ways to make those small donations that are so vital for charities. Pennies’ aim is to build a community of givers and turn small acts of kindness into powerful impact for the charity sector. Because micro-donations matter, now more than ever.

In an increasingly cashless society, Pennies’ digital charity box gives customers paying by card or digital wallet a convenient way to add a small donation to their purchase, when shopping with participating merchants. Whether in-store, online and in-app, it’s a simple, data-free way to donate, with 100% of funds raised going to charity.

Millions of micro-donations are made using the digital charity box each month, helping to raise millions of pounds in much-needed additional income for charities in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The opportunity for retailers and their customers is ground breaking in its potential: if each cardholder gave 35p a week, together we would raise £1billion a year for charity.

Security & Compliance

Upon payment, the customer donation is logged against the Pennies API database. Customers are not required to enter any further payment information and Pennies never stores customer data. Donations are anonymous and the settlement process takes place between the merchant and Pennies which then makes a grant to the nominated charity.
