Overview

It's easier than you think for someone to steal your security credentials when you access your account. Even having a strong password doesn't completely protect you. That is why a lot of our popular sites like Google/Gmail, Apple, Facebook, Amazon Web Services and many others have added two-factor authentication. Even Google strongly recommends using this type of protection on each site. This system uses both your password and your phone to protect your account. To start using two-factor authentication you will need to enter a temporary security code when logging in to Magento. Each security code changes every 30 seconds, so even if someone gets to know your password, he won’t be able to log in to your Magento backend. Setting up Two-Factor Authentication for an administrator in Magento is easy: Just go to the Users section in the Magento backend, click Create a secret key and scan the barcode using the Authenticator application. That's it! Your account is now protected against unauthorized logins.

Google Authenticator Two Factor Authentication extension can protect you against today's threats without the hassle and cost of yesterday's technology. This extension is compatible with recent iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android and BlackBerry smartphones. The extension uses the free open-source Google Authenticator application to generate the security code required to log in. The Magento Two-Factor Authentication extension is also compatible with Authy, Duo Mobile, and LastPass Authenticator.

The extension is easy to install and use. The Google Authenticator Two Factor Authentication Extension is lightweight, completes the task with minimum obstruction, and is in line with the Magento Admin secure login Workflow.

Before your purchase, please make sure your device is able to run the Authenticator application.

Google Authenticator is a software token that implements two-step verification services using the Time-based One-time Password Algorithm(TOTP) for authenticating users of mobile applications by Google. Google Authenticator provides a six- to eight-digit one-time password which users must provide in addition to their username and password to log into Google services or other sites. The Authenticator can also generate codes for third-party applications, such as password managers or file hosting services. Google Authenticator service provider generates an 80-bit secret key for each user. This is provided as a 16, 26 or 32 character base32string or as a QR code.

  • the number of 30-second periods having elapsed since the Time-based One-time Password Algorithm or

  • the counter that is incremented with each new code.

How to use Google Authenticator

A user installs the Authenticator app on a smartphone. To log into a site or service that uses two-factor authentication, the user provides username and password to the site and runs the Authenticator app. The app displays an additional six-digit one-time password. The same password is independently generated by the site, which asks the user for it. The user enters it, thus authenticating the user's identity.
