Overview

Quick Order By SKU delivers enhanced native Magento 2 B2B functionality into your Magento 2 CE/EE stores. This functionality is disclosed in enabling customers to order goods in bulk by producing pre-collected SKU’s into a designated quick-order form. SKUs can be entered one-by-one, as a list, or even imported from a CSV file.

The algorithms behind the quick-order form read the SKU’s and match them to products, which are automatically (or manually in case of individual SKU’s) collected into a quick-order list, which can later be converted into Cart with a single click on a button. The enhancement to the native Magento 2 B2B functionality reveals itself in the options to set-up configurable products right on the Quick Order page via a popup, and in specifying groups of customers eligible for the Quick Order by SKU method.

Features

  • Quick Order list to receive multiple products by their SKUs
  • Search autocomplete by SKU and Product Name
  • On-the-fly product configuration and quantity updating
  • SKU import from a CSV-file
  • Customer group restriction to Quick Order

Business Value

Time is money. The Quick Order by SKU extension for Magento 2 helps your customers save a great deal of time when shopping online and turn it into money for you. The extension facilitates the quick search for products, quick access to product configuration, the quick population of the order list, as well as quick placing of orders, maneuvering customers over possible errors in the utilization of the present functionality.

Why Order By SKU?

When designing the Quick Order by SKU extension for Magento 2 we, here at Aheadworks, referred to the experts in B2B trade, who explained the power of an SKU, as well as the common practice of the trade. Below are the reasons they came forth with for us to develop the extension:

  1. Retailers, wholesale customers, and other B2B partners normally buy in bulk, and it is common for them to keep unique identifiers (aka SKUs) of the previously bought items within their ERPs. The products, bought from you, receive in the Buyer's company-new stock keeping unit numbers. It is dictated by convenience reasons, stock utilization, and logistics principles. B2B buyers operate their own stock-keeping units. That is why to reorder goods, it is important to keep Sellers’ SKU’s, in one way or another: ERP, Excel spreadsheet, etc. All the above means that merchants always have at hand lists of original product SKU’s, and so they mean to use those lists for fast online shopping. With Quick Order by SKU, it takes only to copy-paste the pre-collected SKU’s into the Quick Order form and get it converted into Cart in a few clicks, visiting no product page - saving a great deal of time.
  2. It was brought to our attention that the mere Reorder function as offered by an eCommerce platform does not always facilitate the reordering needs of the online B2B sector. Retailers and wholesale customers often need to merge previous orders, as well as to add new products into them. The Quick Order by SKU extension allows uploading multiple pre-arranged SKU lists into a single quick-order list, add individual products to the list and easily configure products should need be.
  3. An SKU in terms of stock data representation is a unique set of characters to identify an item in the stock. Thereby a list of SKUs seems to bear a very simple one-column layout. By far, it is quite easy to retrieve such data from an ERP system or keep it in an Excel spreadsheet. When entering multiple SKU’s to populate the Quick Order list, the present extension will ask customers to have SKU’s as a list, where entries are separated by a paragraph - as simple as that.
  4. The simple structure of the SKU lists tells the format of a file to store such lists on your computers. The CSV appears to be a perfect choice here. One of the most popular file formats for structured data import/export, CSV is employed by a great number of ERPs and also by Microsoft Office. It is easy and convenient to edit data in CSV files. The Quick Order by SKU allows importing SKU’s from CSV files, one at a time. We have taken the capabilities of a CSV format in full and made it possible to add product quantity numbers to the corresponding SKU’s.

Lastly, meant for the B2B sector, Quick Order by SKU is surprisingly scalable to any size of business. When enabled on the store the extensions do not stipulate any extra work for the Admin - but for the noticeable convenience for customers who tend to place multiple-item orders. Thereby, it may well be sensible to have the module enabled for all groups of customers. At the same time, the restriction/specification option can be used as part of your ongoing promo campaigns to motivate eligible customers to buy more or buy on a more regular basis. This may have further meaning when such restrictions are coupled with those on payment methods and alternative order placement methods (RFQ for example as embodied in the Cart to Quote extension).

How The Extension Works

Customers, when eligible for the Quick Order by SKU method (see above), can get access to the functionality of the module from any page of the store. The button is located in the header of the pages, next to the Customer Name. Alternatively, there is the Quick Order tab in the My Account area.
