Add Canonical Meta Tags To Store Pages

With Canonical URLs extension, you can apply the addition of canonical tags to multiple pages at once. It can be applied to product pages, category pages, CMS pages, homepage, and any other page in order to eliminate the issue of duplicate content from your online store.

Include/Exclude Category Path In Product Canonical URLs

You can choose to include the full category path (main category only) or short category path (main category and subcategories) in product canonical URLs. If you want, you can exclude the category path altogether.

Add Canonical Tags For Pagination & Filters

The category pagination and filters can cause duplicate content issues as listed below. This extension for Magento 2 will add canonical tags to help fix these duplicate URL issues caused by pagination and filters. As examples:

  • Filters: https://www.domainname.com/shirts.html?dir=asc&order=name
  • Pagination: https://www.domainname.com/shirts.html?p=2

The extension will add canonical URLs to these pages to avoid confusion for the search engines and display the relevant page to users.

Example: <link rel="canonical" href="https://domainname.com/category-page/subcategory-page.html?p=2" />

Add Canonical Tags For Layered Navigation Pages

The pagination extensions can cause duplicate content issues by creating multiple pages by filters as listed below.  This extension can help you fix the duplicate issues caused by layered navigation by placing proper canonical tags. As example:

  • Layered navigation: domainname.com/tshirts.html?price=-1000

Setup Canonical Tags For Custom Or Store URL

This extension gives you the freedom to set up canonical meta tags for a custom URL or to a specific Store URL. Canonicals can be applied to a default store URL, a default Store View, or custom select a Store View.

Remove Specific Pages

You can declare specific pages to be excluded from the application of canonical Meta tags. The installation of this extension adds canonical URLs to all the pages of your online store, but you can exclude some of them by adding them to the exceptions block.

  • to exclude canonical meta tag on all product pages use catalog_product_view'
  • to exclude canonical meta tag on CMS home page use: 'cms_index_index'
  • to exclude canonical meta tag on all category pages use: 'catalog_category_view

Canonicalize Pagination & Layered Navigation

Set up canonical tags for the pagination pages to elaborate on the relation of products between different pages. You can also enable canonical Meta tags for the layered navigation pages to define similar product attributes and categories to the search engines.

Set Up Tags

Set up rel="next" and rel="prev" Tags! Canonical URL extension steps further in adding rel="next" and rel="prev" attributes to draw a relation between catalog and category, and let the search engine robots understand it.

Put A Trailing Slash To URLs

You can put a trailing slash to the URL in addition to the canonical Meta tags. This has more to do with improving the readability of the URLs than enhancing SEO rankings.

Fix Index.php Issues

During the development, some extensions change your URLs and add index.php. This can create a big duplicate content problem that can be fixed by this Canonical URL extension by Magento. Example: https://www.pitstoparabia.com/index.php/bridgestone/
